Kristin Jensen, Holiday Gift Guide

Managing Editor of FAIRE

Kristin Jensen is a freelance editor, food writer and publisher in Ireland who believes that stories are one of the most fundamental things that connect absolutely everyone, everywhere.

Kristin Jensen is the publisher and editor at Nine Bean Rows and Blasta Books. Frustrated that many voices and many parts of Irish food culture were not being represented, she founded these new publishing projects to update the story of the modern, diverse and vibrant food scene in Ireland.

Before she founded her own publishing house, Kristin was a freelance editor and writer for over 20 years, specialising in editing cookbooks and recipes. Kristin is also the editorial director of Faire magazine and the co-author of Spice Box: Easy, Everyday Indian Food (Penguin Sandycove, 2023), Making Artisan Pizza at Home (Ryland Peters & Small, 2022) and Sláinte: The Complete Guide to Irish Craft Beer and Cider (New Island, 2014). She has served as the secretary and the chair of the Irish Food Writers’ Guild.

When she’s not pottering in the kitchen or got her nose stuck in a book, you’ll find her walking for miles in the countryside with her dogs, probably listening to a podcast about food.

Skibs were a traditional basket from the West of Ireland used to strain and then serve potatoes. The skib was placed at the centre of the gathering, in some cases in place of a table, and used as a communal serving plate for potatoes. After use it was rinsed, hung on the wall and came to be seen as an integral part of cottage furnishing.

A textile for our times; natural, sustainable and biodegradable. Linen comes from flax, a tall grassy plant that is light on the land and soil enriching, a super pollinator crop, and we use this plant from top to bottom. The fibres make cloth, the seeds and oils are so good for our nutrition and health too. Linen is also antimicrobial, hard wearing, temperature regulating and great for people with wool allergies.
